Birmingham International to Carlisle via the scenic Settle & Carlisle line |
It is expected that this tour will be hauled by a mixture of diesel traction provided by DRS |
We are pleased to announce our third multi-traction tour featuring diesel locomotives from the DRS fleet. Our journey begins at Birmingham International with a class 57 at the helm which takes us to Sheffield via Birmingham New Street, Burton-on-Trent, Derby & Chesterfield. At Sheffield the locomotive will be changed for 2 x class 20's and our journey takes us through the conurbation of Leeds and up into the Aire Valley, where the delightful scenery of the 19th century mills can be seen. As we head northwards we join the famous Settle & Carlisle line, a true masterpiece of Victorian railway engineering with its great limestone peaks and deep valleys we travel over no fewer than 19 viaducts, including the famous Ribblehead Viaduct, before descending into the Lune Valley to our destination of Carlisle for a break of around two hours, in which to enjoy the border city with its historic attractions and excellent range of shops, cafes, and pubs. A further locomotive change for our return journey will occur during the break in Carlisle and with a class 66 at the helm we head through the beautiful Tyne Valley, through Newcastle crossing the Tyne on the King Edward Bridge offering commanding views. From Newcastle we reverse direction with our final locomotives of the day, 2 x class 37s and make our way via the East Coast mainline to just south of York setting down at stations as per our outward journey. |

Preston to Pwllheli |
The Traction for this tour is still to be confirmed |
Starting in Preston and calling at stations along the West Coast Main Line, we head to the Welsh coast traversing the picturesque Cambrian line from Machynlleth to Pwllheli. On leaving Shrewsbury, the line travels through some of the most varied and beautiful scenery while the Cambrian Coast Line provides one of the most stunningly attractive coastal rail journeys in the UK. We are offering set-downs at Barmouth, Minffordd or Porthmadog before our final destination of Pwllheli. Barmouth is a popular seaside town located between a mountain range and the sea on the mouth of the river Mawddach. Alternatively alight at Minffordd for a short walk to the Italiante resort village of Portmeirion, made famous as the setting of the TV programme "The Prisoner". Minffordd also provides a convenient link to the magnificent Rheilffordd Ffestiniog Railway, one of Wales top tourist attractions. Porthmadog is a bustling town, rich in maritime history and terminus of the Ffestiniog Railway. Alternatively, stay on the train for our final destination of Pwllheli, a town full of seaside character which you will have approximately two hours to explore. |

As well as famous landmarks such as Downing Street, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben & the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. It also has tour buses which are a fantastic way to learn about all London and its history and attractions. London is easy to get around either by Tube or Bus, a ticket can be purchased at all larger stations that gives travel on either network for the day. There are a vast array of Pubs and Cafes for you to relax in between your sightseeing, or perhaps a little shopping in Oxford Street or Covent Garden? |
