Birmingham International to Carlisle |
It is expected that this tour will be hauled by a mixture of traction provided by DRS It is with regret that due to DRS being unable to confirm class 20 availability this tour will now be hauled by 2 x DRS class 37 between Sheffield and Carlisle |
Following our successful Cumbrian Crusader II tour which featured no less than 7 diesel locomotives, we are pleased to announce our fourth multi-traction tour using the DRS fleet. Join us for a special day out to Carlisle traversing the world famous Settle & Carlisle line. With a class 57 at the helm our outward journey takes us from Birmingham International to Sheffield where the train reverses and a class 20+37 combination takes us through the conurbation of Leeds and up in to the Aire Valley where delightful scenery of the 19th Century Mills can be seen, then heading northwards we join the famous Settle & Carlisle line, a true masterpiece of Victorian railway engineering with its great limestone peaks and deep valleys we travel over no fewer that 19 viaducts, including the famous Ribblehead Viaduct, before descending into the Lune Valley to our destination of Carlisle for a break of around two hours. For our return journey a class 66 takes us via the beautiful Tyne Valley route to Newcastle crossing the Tyne on the King Edward Bridge offering commanding views. From Newcastle we reverse in direction and a pair of class 37's lead us as we make our way via the East Coast mainline to just south of York, setting down at stations as per our outward journey. |

London Kings Cross to York / Newcastle |
It is expected that this tour will be hauled by 55022 "Royal Scots Grey" |
Join us for a special day out with 55022 "Royal Scots Grey" from London Kings Cross to York & Newcastle. With pick ups at Potters Bar and Peterborough, we are offering a good ECML run to Newcastle for a break of around two hours. We are also offering a very attractive fare for those who wish to make use of our stop at York. The City has many sights and attractions to entertain and interest visitors. York Railway Station is convenient for the City Centre and just a few minutes’ fairly level walk to all the attractions. Alternatively, City Sightseeing open top buses are a great way to see the City and operate a frequent service from the Station. York Minster towers over the whole city and contains England’s greatest concentration of medieval stained glass, and the Great East Window alone covers 2,000 square feet. Railway enthusiasts are well catered for in the National Railway Museum. Admission is now free and it is claimed to be the world’s largest railway museum. We are also offering a "positioning" tour from Doncaster to London Kings Cross hauled by traction from West Coast Railway Company (Class 47 requested) for those based in the north who wish to sample the "Deltic out the Cross", please see below for details. |
